Restorative dentistry focuses on the repairing and restoring of damage teeth. Each tooth is made up of three main parts: the enamel, dentin, and pulp. When a cavity begins in the enamel, it can sometimes be treated early with remineralization. However, once decay reaches the softer dentin layer, a filling is required to restore the tooth. Fillings can be made from tooth- coloured composite material or silver-coloured amalgam. If tooth decay is left untreated, it can progress deeper into the tooth, affecting the pulp or nerve. At this stage, more advanced treatment may be needed to save the tooth.
